Refugees International USA
Refugees International USA
Refugees International Japan and Refugees International in Washington DC share the same roots.
In 1979 Sue Morton, an American living in Asia, witnesses the push-back of 40,000 Cambodian refugees on the Thai border. Sue decides to create Refugees International as a "global voice for the world's dispossessed" while living in Tokyo and then moved back to the United States.
Refugees International generates lifesaving humanitarian assistance and protection for displaced people around the world and works to end the conditions that create displacement.
RI advocates assess humanitarian problems, identify the most urgent needs and move quickly to develop immediate solutions to those needs.
RI advocates spend weeks in the field interviewing and meeting with war-affected populations, non-governmental organizations and aid agencies. RI conducted missions in over 20 countries in 2004.
