Art of Dining
Refugee Japan International has organized this elegant, one-day exhibition of beautiful and imaginative table settings every year since 1990. Celebrities from the media, arts, business, diplomatic, and private arenas give their time and energy to design table settings, which reflect their individual styles, nationalities and personalities. All are inspired by the belief that “setting a beautiful table and sitting down at it to eat” is a cultural concept shared in every region of the world.
This event has grown in stature every year, raising around ¥110 million
since first being held, and attracting some 1,500 visitors each year.
Held on 5 March 2008 at the Westin Tokyo Hotel, the exhibition was
opened by HIH Princess Hitachi, and featured 21 table settings based
on such themes as casual dining in Panama, lunch in the tropical Brazilian
rainforest, tea and sake at a washi table, a banquet to celebrate cherry
blossom, and a luncheon party in Tuscany. |

The next Art of Dining fundraising exhibition will take place on Wednesday March 18th 2009.
Next year's organizers have already started work and, as always, are on the lookout for new talent and ideas to augment our team. We welcome additional volunteer help in a all areas and are particularly keen to hear from foreign and Japanese people with skills in marketing and corporate fundraising (especially in the Japanese business sector) . If you would like to help in any capacity, or would like more information, we would love to hear from you. Please contact: anne@refugeesinternationaljapan.org
